5 Causes of bad breath

Bad breath can be caused by a variety of factors. Bad breath is something almost everyone wants to avoid, but it can also be a helpful indicator of when you need to take better care of your teeth. here are the  5 Causes of bad breath

  • Food. Food particles left in your teeth can increase bacteria and cause an odor. Eating certain foods, such as onions, also can also cause bad breath.
  • Tobacco products. Tobacco products, in general, leave an odor in your mouth which causes bad breath.
  • Poor dental hygiene. If you don’t brush daily, food remains in your mouth, causing bad breath. This can cause plaque and by not brushing it away,  your gums can become irritated and can cause periodontitis.
  • Dry mouth. Saliva removes particles that cause bad odors. A lack of saliva can cause dry mouth which contributes to bad breath. Dry mouth naturally occurs during sleep, causing “morning breath.”
  • Infections in your mouth. Chronic bad breath can alert a person of an infection in the mouth. Typically occurring through surgical wounds after oral surgery, tooth decay, gum disease or mouth sores, bad breath can be a major warning sign of complications in the healing process.
