Four tips for eating with new dentures
A brand new pair of teeth will have anyone excited to show off their new smile. Protecting that smile is important too, Kilby Family Dentistry wants your teeth to last longer than your first pair.
Immediately chewing food after getting dental implants can cause major discomfort. It is recommended to stick to a liquid diet while you and your teeth become acquainted.
Cut your food into smaller pieces
Once you and your teeth have become acquainted, cutting your food into smaller pieces can make it easier to chew and swallow. This will also put less pressure on your gums.
Be mindful of tough foods
Be mindful of your new teeth and what they can handle. Tougher foods can put a lot of pressure on your gums. If you would like to enjoy food like red meat, it is recommended that it is stewed or cooked over a long period of time. If this is not possible for you, cutting your steak into smaller pieces is a great alternative.
Be careful of sticky food
Just like with your original teeth, sticky foods are not great for them. Foods like candy and peanut butter can get stuck between your gums and your dentures which can cause inflammation. Be sure to clean all areas when you are done indulging in a sweet treat.
