Common myths about teeth whitening
Everybody knows that white teeth are essential for a dazzling smile. Here are Common myths about teeth whitening.
- Will bleaching my teeth help get rid of cavities? Whitening only changes the appearance of a person’s teeth. Although bleach penetrates the pores of our teeth, decay lives deeper within and eats away at people’s teeth structure. Bleaching with current areas of decay is not recommended as it typically causes a patient to be even more so uncomfortable.
- If I bleach my teeth, will my crowns/veneers whiten too? Crowns and veneers are solid restorations that are not absorptive like our teeth and will not stick to any bleach applied. If you are unhappy with the shade of your crowns and wish to go lighter, it is ideal to bleach your natural teeth to the desired shade and replace the existing crowns and veneers with a lighter shade.
- Are over the counter products as beneficial as professional bleaching? Many people have used over the counter products, like Crest 3D White Strips and Dr. Collins All White 22 Percent Bleaching System, and have had great results! Professional products are made to give patients a desired result in a quicker and healthier method. Over the counter products are efficient but tend to be more time consuming.
